Emotional Learning Support Assistants

ELSA is bespoke programme delivered by a trained member of staff who is regularly supervised by an Educational Psychologist.

An ELSA is someone who works with a pupil experiencing some emotional difficulties at school or home and who may also be having difficulties communicating how they are feeling.

ELSA can help in areas such as,

  • building self esteem
  • social skills
  • friendship skills
  • anger and behaviour management
  • Loss and bereavement
  • relaxation techniques
  • transition/ change

The programme is usually delivered over 6 weeks with weekly sessions of around half hour. This is usually an individual programme but may involve others if the focus is on friendship.

An ELSA will develop and plan and deliver their intervention purely on the individual needs of the pupil they are working with.
