Buddy Bench

Our buddy bench helps to uphold children’s rights by promoting friendship, kindness and inclusion. It ensures that every child has the right to play, feel safe, and be part of our school community.
A buddy bench is more than just a seat in the playground—it helps promote several important rights of the child from the UNCRC. When children use the buddy bench to find friends, seek support, or include others, they are actively exercising and protecting these rights:
⭐ Article 15 – Right to meet with other children and make friends
The buddy bench helps children build friendships. If someone is feeling lonely, they can sit on the bench to let others know they would like someone to play with.
⭐ Article 31 – Right to play and relax
Every child has the right to enjoy playtimes. The buddy bench ensures that no one is left out and everyone has a chance to join in play.
⭐ Article 19 – Right to be safe from harm
Feeling lonely or excluded can lead to emotional harm. The buddy bench encourages kindness and support, helping children feel safe, included and cared for.
⭐ Article 2 – Non-discrimination
The buddy bench is for every child, no matter their background, ability or needs. It promotes fairness and inclusion across the whole school.
⭐ Article 12 – Right to express feelings and be listened to
Using the bench lets a child communicate, without words, that they need help or company. It encourages others to listen and respond kindly.
