Our Rights and Responsibilities

This week, our children explored the idea that with every right we have comes an important responsibility. Using the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) as our guide, we focused on three key articles: Article 16 (Right to Privacy), Article 24 (Right to Health), and Article 31 (Right to Relax, Play and Take Part in Cultural Activities). Through discussion, activities, and reflection, the children learned what these rights mean for them—and how they can help protect the rights of others.

Our Responsibilities to Others

As part of the learning, the children discussed how their actions can help ensure that everyone enjoys these rights—not just themselves.

🔹 If we have the right to privacy…

We have the responsibility to:

  • Respect other people’s boundaries and personal space.

  • Keep classmates’ information private.

  • Ask permission before taking photos or looking at someone’s belongings.

🔹 If we have the right to good health…

We have the responsibility to:

  • Help keep the environment clean and safe.

  • Encourage healthy habits (like handwashing and kind behaviours).

  • Look out for others who may need help or support.

🔹 If we have the right to rest, play and take part…

We have the responsibility to:

  • Let others join in games and activities.

  • Share equipment fairly and take turns.

  • Make play spaces safe and enjoyable for everyone.
