Bike and Scooter Safety Lessons

The NPT Road Safety Team came in to run bike and scooter safety sessions with our Key Stage 3 learners from Bryncoch and Port Talbot provisions.
Every learner started with a helmet and learned how to wear one properly. A helmet sitting too far back on the head does nothing in a fall.
Safety checks came next. Learners ran the ABC check on the bikes, air, brakes and chain, and an L check on the scooters. They did the checking themselves rather than watching an adult do it. Braking followed, then out to the playground to ride.
Riding in a line takes more concentration than it sounds. Learners practised holding their position, judging the space in front of them and stopping on command. Emergency stops got a lot of attention.
The rest of the session built balance, control and turning, using the school's own set of bikes and scooters.
We'll be having another session on Thursday, 16th of July.
Diolch to the NPT Road Safety Team for a hands-on morning that sent learners home with skills they will use on the road.
