Horizon 6 September Round-Up
What a fantastic start to the new school year we have had in Horizon 6!
September has been full of smiles, new experiences and exciting learning opportunities. The learners have settled back into school life brilliantly, quickly getting back into routines and showing a positive attitude towards their learning each day. We are so proud of how well everyone has adapted to Year 9 and begun working towards their personal targets.
We have already enjoyed some wonderful learning experiences this month. One of our first highlights was attending the NPT Peri Music Roadshow at Cwmtawe Comprehensive School. The talented musicians entertained us with a fantastic programme that included music from Pirates of the Caribbean, a beautiful harp solo and even an energetic ABBA dance session to finish. It was a memorable morning and a huge hit with everyone!
Our annual visit to Neath Fair was another great success. The learners had an amazing time enjoying the rides and attractions. We certainly discovered a few thrill seekers in Horizon 6 who were eager to experience the fastest and highest rides on offer!
A real September highlight was our trip to see Shrek the Musical at The Gwyn Hall in Neath. The production, performed by Melyncrythan Musical Theatre Company, was absolutely brilliant. The learners laughed, sang and clapped along throughout the show and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. It was a wonderful experience and a real treat for us all.
We have also made several visits to Gnoll Country Park as part of our Forest School activities. During one visit, we explored the wildlife and natural environment, and on another we collected autumn treasures from nature to use in our artwork. Of course, feeding the ducks and swans was a firm favourite too!
Back in the classroom, we have begun exploring our exciting big question: "What matters to you most?" This has already inspired some thoughtful discussions and ideas. For our topic work, we are investigating different Festivals of Light celebrated around the world and learning about their significance to different communities and cultures.
In literacy, we have started reading The Wind in the Willows. The learners are thoroughly enjoying the story and especially love hearing about the adventures and mischief that Mr Toad gets himself into!
We are incredibly proud that 8 learners from Horizon 6 are representing our class on the new school committees this year. Zachary has been selected as an Eco Warrior, Theo and RJ are our Digital Leaders, Kacie-Jo is our Wellbeing Representative, Ava and Esmee are members of the Rights Respecting Schools Committee, Lilyanna is representing the class on Criw Cymraeg, and Aeron is our Safeguarding Representative. We know they will all do an excellent job sharing ideas, promoting positive change, and ensuring that pupil voice is heard across the school community.
It has been a wonderful start to the academic year, and it has been lovely to see the confidence, enthusiasm and kindness shown by all of our learners. We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved already and cannot wait to see what exciting opportunities October will bring.
