Ymadrodd yr Wythnos/Phrase of the Week: ie (yes)

Our learners make real choices
One word this week.
From Monday 9 November, learners and staff across Bryncoch, Theodore Road and Velindre use ie as our Ymadrodd yr Wythnos. Ie means yes. Say it: YEH.
Learners met ie last week in the reply Ie, diolch. This week the word stands on its own. Staff build ie into choice moments across the day: registration, snack, choosing an activity, getting ready to move on.
A nod counts. The poster shows a nod beside the word and for some of our learners a nod is the clearest yes they give. Learners also say ie, sign the word or point to the symbol.
Our learners now know nine phrases: bore da, prynhawn da, shwmae, hwyl fawr, croeso, os gwelwch yn dda, diolch, Ga i helpu? and ie.
How you help at home
Ask yes or no questions in English and answer in Welsh. Do you want toast? Ie.
Give your child a real choice between two things, so a yes means yes.
Nod as you say ie. Your child sees and hears the word together.
Ymadrodd yr Wythnos is part of our work towards the Siarter Iaith Bronze Award, which supports learners to use Welsh every day. Our Criw Cymraeg, the learner-led Welsh language group, promotes each phrase across all three sites.
Ie to every family practising at home. Diolch yn fawr.
