Ysgol Hendrefelin’s Eco Warriors met on Wednesday 21 October. They rated the meeting “great” and left with a clear plan for the rest of the year.

The group started by looking back at their recent litter pick on Aberavon Beach. Learners worked alongside the charity Mind to clear rubbish from the sand. They enjoyed the day and want to do more.

Keeping our school clean is everyone’s job. The Eco Warriors made this point firmly. They asked for every class to take part in a weekly litter pick around the school grounds. Mrs Sayce will draw up a timetable so each class takes a turn.

The bins on the yard came next. The group wants to review them and will speak to Mr Howells about changes.

Then a bigger idea. The Eco Warriors want to hold a repair café at Ysgol Hendrefelin. At a repair café, people bring broken items such as clothes, toys or small electricals and fix them instead of throwing them away. Mrs Sayce will contact a repair café team by December.

Beyond the school gates, the group plans a community litter pick with the Eco Committee every half term. Work on the Good Life Schools Project will also continue.

The Eco Warriors meet again after half term.
