Our learners have their say on feeling safe

At their first meeting, learners shared what feeling safe at school means to them.

Ysgol Hendrefelin’s Safeguarding Ambassadors held their first meeting on Wednesday 21 October.

The group began with one question. What does safeguarding mean to us? Learners talked about feeling safe and who they go to for help. Their verdict was clear: our school is a safe place to be and they feel happy here.

Lunchtime came up next. The Ambassadors told us the canteen feels busy and loud. They want lunchtimes to be calmer. Each Ambassador will now ask their classmates for ideas and share them on the group’s Google Classroom before the next meeting.

The group also asked for more chances to regulate during the day. Their idea is a dedicated space, such as a Zones of Regulation room or a sensory room, where learners go when they feel overwhelmed. Mrs Sayce will raise this with Mr Duford and Mrs Flannery.

Mrs Sayce has set up a Google Classroom for the Ambassadors, ready for them to join and share ideas.

The Ambassadors meet again after half term to report back on what their classmates said about lunchtimes.
