Horizon 3 create nature self-portraits in Bryncoch Woods

Leaves, sticks, stones and flowers became art materials for Horizon 3 on Outdoor Learning Day.

Learners headed into Bryncoch Woods with one task. They had to make a self-portrait using only natural objects found around them. Everyone explored the woodland and gathered their own collection of materials.

Then the creative work began. Learners tested different arrangements, swapping a stone for a leaf or a stick for a flower until each face looked right. No two portraits matched.

Teamwork played a big part in the day. Learners shared their finds, helped each other collect materials and swapped ideas on layouts. They studied the shapes, textures and colours of the woodland as they worked.

The session gave learners time outdoors, space to use their imagination and plenty of fun along the way.

Da iawn, Horizon 3. Your woodland portraits were a joy to see.
