Lego Therapy

Lego therapy helps learners build social communication skills through play. Daniel LeGoff, a clinical psychologist, developed the approach in the early 2000s after he noticed children with autism connected more easily when they built Lego together.

At Ysgol Hendrefelin, learners work in small groups to complete a Lego model. Each child takes a role. The engineer reads the instructions and describes each step. The supplier finds the right bricks. The builder puts the model together. Roles rotate, so every child practises each skill

The shared model gives learners a common goal. To finish it, they take turns, ask for what they need, listen and solve problems together. These are the same skills that support friendships, group work and everyday conversation.

Our staff guide each session and step back as learners grow in confidence. For many of our learners, Lego therapy makes social skills concrete, visible and fun.
