A new name, chosen by our learners

Introducing The Horizon Centre at Bryncoch

Our cognition and learning difficulties provision at Bryncoch has a new name. The Horizon Centre. Chosen by the learners themselves.

Over the past few weeks, learners across the provision took part in a consultation to help us choose a name that felt right for them. They were given a shortlist of options, each one designed to reflect ambition, possibility and the journey every learner makes during their time with us. Staff supported learners to share their views in ways that worked for them, including symbol-supported voting, discussion in class and one-to-one conversations.

The Horizon Centre came out on top.

We love what this name represents. A horizon is something you move towards. It shifts as you grow. It speaks to progress, curiosity and the bright future ahead of every young person in our provision. It also sits beautifully alongside our other provision names at Ysgol Hendrefelin, joining Aspire as part of a shared story about what learners do here.

The Horizon Centre supports learners in KS3 and KS4 with cognition and learning difficulties (previously moderate learning difficulties). Staff offer a curriculum tailored to each learner, with a strong focus on communication, independence, wellbeing and the skills needed for adult life.

Thank you to every learner who took part in the vote. Your voice shaped this decision and your name will be part of the school for years to come.

You will see The Horizon Centre name appear gradually across signage, paperwork and our website over the coming term.
