A surfboard for Surfability, made by our pupils

KS4 pupils designed, built and delivered a mosaic surfboard to the team at Surfability this term.

A surfboard made of mosaic tiles now sits pride of place at Surfability. Our KS4 CLD pupils made it, shaped it and handed it over themselves.

The project ran across this year's pottery lessons at Bryncoch. Pupils designed the surfboard, cut and arranged the tiles and built it piece by piece. Mr Jones, Miss Trick and Mrs Hopkins guided every stage, from the first sketches to the final grouting.

The visit to Surfability was the moment it all came together. Pupils carried the finished surfboard in, talked the team through how they made it and answered questions about the design choices. The team at Surfability were thrilled with the gift and told pupils it would go up pride of place in their building.

Projects like this build real skills. Pupils practised planning, fine motor control, teamwork and communication, then saw their work valued by people outside school. That kind of feedback stays with a young person.

Diolch to Mr Jones, Miss Trick, Mrs Hopkins and the team at Surfability for making it happen.
