Aspire get growing at the allotment

Aspire learners spent a busy day at our allotment in Fairyland. They dug, planted, weeded and harvested, all in the fresh air.
Growing our own food
Learners planted new carrots and onions. They checked on the carrots already in the ground to see how much they had grown. Then came the best part. Learners harvested the ready carrots and sorted the onions.
Looking after the garden
The group prepared the soil ready for new flowers. Learners trimmed and pulled out weeds, then cleared away the cuttings and branches. Spades out, the group worked together to dig a hole for the new pond.
Picking and collecting
Learners picked flowers from the garden. They also collected apples from the trees.
Time to rest
After all the hard work, everyone stopped to relax and enjoy the outdoors.
Learning outside the classroom
Allotment visits give learners hands-on experience of where food comes from. Learners practise teamwork, communication and physical skills in a real setting. The visit linked to Science and Technology and Health and Well-being in the Curriculum for Wales.
Da iawn, Aspire!
