Eco-Schools

What is Eco Schools all about?

Eco-Schools is a global programme engaging 19.5 million children across 70 countries, making it the largest educational programme on the planet.

The programme was developed by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) in 1994 and run in Wales by Keep Wales Tidy.

It is designed to empower and inspire young people to make positive environmental changes to their school and wider community, while building on their skills, including numeracy and literacy, and encompassing Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship.

What we do...

Here in Ysgol Hendrefelin our Eco Committee members meet regularly throughout the year to represent the views taken from across the whole school and discuss how we can take them forward and generate smart targets so that we can monitor the progress made.

After the meeting, the Eco Committee members relay the outcomes of the discussion to their class peers and staff, to ensure that the whole school are informed of any Eco updates.

Our Eco display board is also used to inform other students about what is going on.

We work as a whole team to keep Eco matters a high priority in our everyday school lives. This includes taking care of our school and local community environments.

Litter Patrol

Our Eco committee and the wider school body like to do regular litter picks on our school site and out in our wider community with support from our local councillor Jo Hale.
