Litter picking in Bryncoch Village

Making a Difference in Our Community

This week, our pupils took learning beyond the classroom and out into the heart of the local community by taking part in a litter picking walk — and what an impact they made!

Armed with litter pickers and plenty of enthusiasm, the group set off with a clear mission: to help keep our local area clean and show pride in the place we live. Over the course of just one mile, pupils were amazed to discover how much rubbish had been dropped. By the end of the walk, we had collected almost a full black bag of litter.

As well as improving the local environment, the activity sparked some thoughtful discussions. Pupils talked about why littering happens, how rubbish affects wildlife, and what small actions we can all take to make a positive difference. Many were surprised by how quickly rubbish builds up — and how much of a difference a short amount of time and teamwork can make.

The litter pick was also a great opportunity to develop important life skills. Pupils worked together, showed responsibility, and demonstrated respect for their community. Most importantly, they felt proud of the contribution they had made. Several pupils commented on how good it felt to do something helpful.

We are incredibly proud of everyone who took part. Activities like this help reinforce our values of kindness, responsibility and citizenship, while showing pupils that they have the power to make a real difference — no matter how small the action may seem.
