๐ŸŒฑ Sustainable Style: Learning About Fashion and the Environment

This week, our Eco School journey took an exciting and creative turn as we welcomed a special visitor into school to teach our eco committee all about sustainable fashion. It was a truly inspiring morning filled with eye-opening discussions, hands-on activities, and plenty of creativity!

๐Ÿ‘• Understanding the Impact of Fashion

The session began by exploring how the fashion industry affects our planet. Pupils were fascinated—and shocked—to learn about the enormous “fashion dump” in the desert, where millions of unwanted clothes end up. This powerful example helped everyone understand the importance of reducing waste, reusing materials, and thinking carefully about what we buy and wear.

The discussion encouraged pupils to reflect on their own choices and consider how small changes can make a big difference to the environment.

๐Ÿงต Learning Practical Skills

After learning about the environmental impact of fashion, it was time to get hands-on! Pupils developed valuable practical skills, including:

  • Sewing with a needle – learning basic stitching techniques and how to repair or create items by hand
  • Using and programming a sewing machine – gaining confidence with new equipment and understanding how technology can support sustainable practices
  • Designing and creating prints – expressing their creativity by producing their own unique designs for t-shirts

It was fantastic to see pupils so engaged, taking care with their work and showing real pride in what they created.

๐ŸŽจ Creativity Meets Sustainability

One of the highlights of the day was seeing each student design their own eco-friendly t-shirt print. There was a wonderful range of ideas, all reflecting what the pupils had learned about protecting our planet.

๐ŸŒ Building a Greener Future

This experience helped our pupils understand that fashion doesn’t have to come at a cost to the environment. By repairing, reusing, and redesigning clothing, we can all play a part in reducing waste and creating a more sustainable future.

We would like to say a huge thank you to our visitor for delivering such an engaging and thought-provoking workshop. The skills and knowledge gained will stay with our pupils for years to come—and we hope it inspires more eco-friendly choices both in school and at home! โ™ป๏ธ๐Ÿ‘š
