🌿 Eco Committee Campaign to Save Our School Pond πŸΈπŸ’§

A presentation to Mr Duford

Our Eco Committee recently took on an important mission—to present to the Headteacher about why our school pond is such a vital part of our environment and why it must be protected. The pupils worked incredibly hard to prepare a detailed and passionate presentation, sharing powerful reasons to highlight just how valuable our pond is to both nature and our school community.

🐾 A Haven for Biodiversity

One of the key points raised was the rich biodiversity that our pond supports. It is home to a wide range of wildlife, providing habitats for species such as newts, tadpoles, frogs, and a variety of insects including dragonflies, pond skaters, and water boatmen. The pond plays a crucial role in maintaining a balanced ecosystem, allowing different species to thrive.

🌸 Supporting Nature and the Food Chain

The Eco Committee explained how the pond:

  • Encourages plant growth, helping to create a healthy and thriving environment
  • Plays an important role in the food chain, supporting animals in the Bryncoch area that depend on pond life for survival
  • Helps pollinators such as bees, which are essential for plant life
  • Provides drinking water for wildlife, especially during dry weather when natural water sources may be scarce

πŸ“š A Valuable Learning Resource

The pond is not just important for wildlife—it is also a fantastic outdoor classroom. Pupils highlighted how:

  • They regularly have lessons about ecosystems, habitats, and wildlife
  • They benefit from visits from Go Explore Learn, who teaches them about pond life
  • The pond supports hands-on, engaging outdoor learning opportunities, making learning more meaningful and memorable

🌿 Supporting Wellbeing and Responsibility

Another key message was the pond’s importance for wellbeing and personal development. The Eco Committee explained that:

  • The pond area is a calm and sensory space, where pupils can relax and feel more settled
  • It helps children develop a sense of responsibility, as they learn how to care for living things and understand the importance of protecting the environment

🌍 A Benefit for the Whole Community

Finally, the pupils shared how the pond benefits not only the school but the wider Bryncoch community. By protecting and nurturing this space, we are supporting local wildlife and helping to create a greener, healthier environment for everyone.

πŸ‘ A Proud Moment

The Eco Committee delivered their presentation with confidence, passion, and a clear commitment to making a difference. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and their dedication to protecting our environment.

This was a fantastic example of pupil voice in action and a reminder of how young people can lead the way in caring for our planet. 🌱
