Acid and Alkalines experiment

Year 10 pupils recently took part in a hands-on science experiment investigating acids and alkalis. The lesson focused on understanding how different substances can be classified using the pH scale and how indicators can reveal whether a solution is acidic, neutral, or alkaline.

Pupils tested a variety of everyday substances such as vinegar, lemon juice, water and Sulphuric acid and bleach. Using universal indicator solution, they carefully observed colour changes and recorded the corresponding pH values.

The experiment encouraged pupils to develop practical laboratory skills, including measuring liquids accurately, handling equipment safely, and recording scientific observations.

Students showed great enthusiasm throughout the activity, discussing their predictions and comparing results with their classmates. Many were surprised to see how dramatically the indicator changed colour depending on the substance tested.
