We are pleased to inform parents and carers that our KS4 pupils recently took part in a Work Skills Day, delivered in partnership with Careers Wales. The day was designed to help pupils develop key employability skills and gain valuable insight into the world of work.
Throughout the day, pupils engaged in a range of interactive and practical activities, including:
Employability Skills Sessions with Neuro Kind Careers
Pupils explored essential workplace skills such as communication, confidence, self-awareness, understanding individual strengths and interview technique.
Mock Employer Interviews
Pupils took part in realistic interview experiences with real-life employers, giving them the opportunity to practise interview techniques, receive constructive feedback and build confidence.
Work-Based Literacy and Numeracy
These sessions focused on applying literacy and numeracy skills in real workplace contexts, helping pupils understand how these skills are used beyond the classroom.
Problem-Solving Team Building Activity
Pupils worked collaboratively to solve challenges, developing teamwork, resilience and problem-solving skills that are highly valued by employers.
The Work Skills Day was a valuable opportunity for pupils to prepare for future pathways, including further education, training and employment. We would like to thank Careers Wales, Neuro Kind Careers, and our visiting employers for their support in making the day both engaging and impactful.
We recently held an Industry Insight session focused on the Hospitality and Tourism industry, providing students with a valuable opportunity to learn directly from professionals working in the field.
We were pleased to welcome representatives from the local hotel Morgans, who shared insights into the wide range of job roles within a hotel environment. Students learned about different departments, including front office, housekeeping, food and beverage, events, and management, as well as the roles and responsibilities associated with each area.
The session highlighted the variety of career pathways available in hospitality, the skills employers look for, and the importance of teamwork, communication, and customer service. Students also had the chance to ask questions and gain a better understanding of what a typical working day in a hotel might look like.
We would like to thank the team from Morgans for their time and for providing such an engaging and informative session for our students.
What a fantastic way to recognise commitment and consistency! Today’s Attendance Assembly was a wonderful celebration of our students’ hard work and dedication in achieving high and improved attendance.
Pupils enjoyed a festive, creative session this morning, whilst starting to get to know some of the youth service workers who will help them to transition to their next steps after Ysgol Hendrefelin.
Celebrating Achievement: Duke of Edinburgh Awards Presentation
Over the past few weeks, pupils from KS4 Groups 1 and 2 have taken part in an exciting hands-on project at Down to Earth in Gower. This unique experience combined teamwork, creativity, and traditional craft skills as the pupils worked together to build an outdoor pizza oven.
Our year 11 pupils recently had their first introductions to Neath or Afan colleges. Pupils took a guided tour around the campuses and spent more time with Andrea and Karla - their transition officers. The pupils were very mature and it was good to see some old familiar faces as well.
Today in pottery, our students have been busy creating and designing beautiful Christmas decorations.
KS4 received an amazing motivational talk about being their own superhero!
