Areas of Learning & Experience

Everything a learner does connects to six Areas of Learning and Experience. These sit alongside literacy, numeracy and digital skills, and together they shape what learning looks like in our school.

Expressive Arts

In Expressive Arts, learners explore art, dance, drama, film, digital media and music. They build their creative and performance skills, and they find different ways to express themselves.

Health and Well-being

Health and Well-being is about looking after physical and mental health, including emotional well-being. Learners learn about healthy eating, making good choices, handling influences and building healthy relationships.

Humanities

In Humanities, learners learn about the world, society and events, past and present. They think about the challenges we face and what we can do to look after the world and the people in it.

Languages, Literacy and Communication

In Languages, Literacy and Communication, learners develop Welsh, English and other languages. They read, create and share ideas through speech, writing and visual ways, including poetry, drama and film.

Mathematics and Numeracy

In Mathematics and Numeracy, learners build their understanding of number and how to use symbols in maths. They explore shape, measurement, statistics and probability, and they use these skills in real situations.

Science and Technology

In Science and Technology, learners study biology, chemistry, physics, computer science and design and technology. They learn about design and engineering, living things, matter, forces and energy, and how computers work.

Our curriculum also covers
  • Human rights.
  • Diversity and respecting differences.
  • Skills and experiences for careers and the workplace.
  • Learning in local, national and international contexts.
  • Relationships and sexuality education, at a level that is right for each learner.
